There are lots of things to see and do right on the doorstep or within a short distance of the Cottage:
 
Walking Through Caledonian Pine forests, alongside rivers, tranquil lochs or sandy beaches at Nairn and Findhorn on the Moray coast - walking routes available from Cairngorm Bike and Hike, and Aviemore Tourist Information Centre.   Biking Routes for all abilities - for local info and bike hire - visit Cairngorm Bike and Hike. For more advanced tracks to thrill even the most proficient rider go to Wolftrax at Laggan.

Wildlife Watching This area is has an abundance of birds and wildlife. See nesting Ospreys (Apr-Aug) at RSPB Loch Garten; watch Pine Martens and Badgers from Speyside Wildlife's exclusive hide or enjoy a Rothiemurchus Safari.   Whisky Trail The Spey Valley is famous for its whisky and there are numerous distilleries to visit. Water Sports Sailing, windsurfing, canoeing - all can be enjoyed on Loch Morlich and Loch Insh - both hire equipment and offer tuition.   Horse Riding Horse riding and organised treks for all ability levels available from Carrbridge Stables and Rothiemurchus.

Clay Shooting Rothiemurchus Shooting Ground is one of the best facilities in the UK plus it offers top class tuition. Whether a beginner or a crack shot you’ll have a sensational time.   Quad Bike Trekking Exciting and fun and led by fully experienced guides, you'll be taken along a network of tracks and trails around Rothiemurchus - great fun and not to be missed!

Sleddog Trekking The only Sleddog Museum of its kind in the UK, based in Glenmore Forest, offers kennel tours and the chance to lead your own 12-dog team on a trek.   Golf Numerous good quality courses within a 15-mile radius, especially Boat of Garten, Grantown on Spey, Spey Valley  and Kingussie, plus the 9-hole courses at Nethy Bridge and Carrbridge.

Winter Sports Nearby Cairngorm Mountain and the Lecht both offer winter skiing and snowboarding plus equipment hire and tuition if required.   Swimming Two hotels in Aviemore have swimming pools, Coylumbridge and Macdonald Aviemore Resort, plus in Inverness there is a large pool with wave machine and flumes.

Fishing The River Spey offers some of the best Salmon, Sea and Brown Trout fishing in Scotland. Visitor permits are available local Post Offices and licences for beats at Grantown can be obtained from Strathspey Estate Office. For stocked lochs go to Rothiemurchus whilst Abernethy Angling Association also offers River Spey permits. Mortimers of Speyside, of Grantown also sell permits, equipment, clothing and accessories.

Landmark Park - Excitement for all ages, in all weathers, all year round - fantastic watercoaster, exhibitions, viewing tower, tree-top trail, climbing wall and much more.

Nethybridge Pottery - in a converted farm steading in a superb rural setting overlooking the valley of the river spey, Potter Rob Lawson works alone from the workshop adjoining the showroom, this being the only outlet for his stunning tableware, oven dishes, lamp bases, large bowls, platters, vases clocks and candlesticks in vibrant, organic colours.

Speyside Centre - Multi-award winning Visitor Centre with over 300 varieties of heather, famous Clootie Dumpling Restaurant, Art Gallery, Heather Exhibition and so much more.

Cairngorm Mountain - Travel on the funicular railways and experience the view from the top, enjoy a coffee or lunch in the Ptarmigan Restaurant, visit the exhibition and the mountain garden.

Cairngorm Reindeer Centre - Britain's only herd of reindeer, found free ranging in the Cairngorm Mountains. These extremely tame and friendly animals are a joy so go and see them and feed them too!

Highland Wildlife Park - Discover Scotland's wildlife from eagles to wolves, from past to present.

Rothiemurchus - One of Scotland's most beautiful Highland estates with amazing scenery, both relaxing or adventurous outdoor activities, delicious estate produce and a passion for nature conservation.

Strathspey Steam Railway - A fascinating insight into the age of steam with 10-mile steam trips through 'Monarch of the Glen' country - right on the doorstep of Strathspey Cottage. Great for dining out whilst enjoying a traditional train journey.

Highland Folk Museum - Enter the world of the Highlander at it's Newtonmore site.
